We Eat Together (We Eat, We Tweet)
Concept and Experiment by Sarah Kosar
Sam and Sarah are married. They ate together for 30 days at the same time everyday (whether they were together or apart). The experiment began on 15 January 2014 and continued for 30 days. Following @WeEat_Together's completion, Sam and Sarah have continued to eat the smaller portions but now they don't share a plate (mostly to avoid vicious forking).
This was an experiment in preparation for Sarah's new play, Spaghetti Ocean.
The results of what they ate and how close they came to divorce are below.
E x p e r i m e n t
1. Sarah and Sam have to eat for thirty days at the same time as the other (even if apart).
1a. If Sam and Sarah are apart, they must agree to eat at the same time through twitter and document the food through a photo. (If one does not confirm the time and post their food photo, the other is not allowed to eat).
1b. If together, Sarah and Sam are only allowed one plate of food to share (nothing is their own unless they are apart). Even a grain of rice when together has to be shared.
2. At the end of the day, Sarah and Sam rate their happiness for the day on a scale of hangry to happy (1-10).
3. Try to stay married until 14th February.
The results are below, with notable event points below.
Number of Betrayals (eating without the other)
Sam ate a couple tortilla chips in the morning on Day 12
Sarah ate a donut during a meeting at work on Day 17
Sarah had dinner without Sam and refused to wait on day 30
Sam and Sarah had an extra piece of chocolate together that they did not tweet
Day 8: The first time Sarah and Sam kissed during dinner (which before We Eat Together was a ritual before the first bite)
Day 9: Sarah was diagnosed as very likely to have coeliac disease (yes, this is the girl with the pasta tattoo)
Day 10: Sarah and Sam's hamster Abe died
